Facts & Figures

The LRCT was founded in october 1998 to bring together the many Land Rover owners on the island Terschelling. (It is estimated that there are aprox. 200 Land Rovers on this small island with a population of about 4700.

Since the start the number of members has steadily increased. The club is not a general 4x4 club and specialises in Land Rovers only.

Early january there is an annual New Years Meeting at a remote part of the beach. In the “mobile clubhouse” (a large cattle trailer) hot cocoa and snacks are being served.

Trials are also organised. Very popular is the february night trial through “remote” and especially wet parts of the island.

Once in a while the club is called upon for charity purposes. Like beachtours for handicapped people and oil spill clean ups on the beach.

Every three months a club magazine is issued, with Land Rover news, technical tips, club agenda, Land Rover poëtry, cartoon, etc.

The LRCT is also the representative of the many members who enjoy riding on the beach in the wintertime. This is the beachcombing season or “jutten” as it is called in dutch. Jutten has always been an important part of life for the Terschellingers. In the old days, washed asshore goods like timber, barrels, ropes etc. were an important addition to the low incomes.

Nowadays there is more and more pressure on this kind of use of the beach by motorised vehicles from several lobbies. To be compared with the greenlaning problems/discusion in the UK.
